While limited rehearsals left little room for error, the cast was glad to be working with Tony. “He has a knack for bringing the right people together who get on well,” said actor John Windsor-Cunningham. “There’s just an atmosphere he creates. He talks to you the same way he’d talk to Noel Coward.  He respects people, he knows they have something good to bring to the show.”

For example, Grove’ and Palmer’s chemistry was a large part of the night’s success.  According to Walton, this was no accident:“For my money, there’s no-one better than Sean & Jess for a combination of just wonderful voices and stage presence.”

The performances were quite strong, but the staging made the story’s twist ending unclear for some unfamiliar with the story. [Spoilers.] Regardless, the show was very well received, and served as a welcome first act to the main event: The Anglo-American Cultural Awards.
