Everything about the show felt somehow liberated—it was obvious Posen had fun with this. Everything from the loud makeup to the pineapple prints was as exciting as it was colorful.
While commenting on his inspiration for the collection, Posen also made clear that he wasn’t just trying to design a line he thought would sell to victims of American youth pop culture, he was actually inspired by them.
“I am a communicator making a collection for how girls dress on the street, how they dress and send their photos on the blogs, how they tweet about their outfits, this is about pop Americana culture.”
Many of the eccentric prints of various fruit motifs featured in Z Spoke were designed by British illustrator Daisy de Villeneuve.
Zac Posen’s show was also even more eventful than expected when it became the first show at Fashion Week where a model took a tumble. Sudanese model Alek Wek took a graceful spill and fell to her knees while wearing a particularly challenging pair of platform shoes. She instantly recovered, and actually rose back up laughing to wild applause by the audience.
