Marianne Aulie. Tabloid star or artistic genius?
MA: My current project is reproducing my work on paper, metal, and porcelain to reach out with my art and give me a very solid financial
base, so I can concentrate on my originals and be free to create the art that comes from my heart. What I’m most excited about is my
meeting with the extremely talented fashion designer Cody Ross /PriestessNYC and his invitation to work with him on a collaboration
coming out this fall.
SCV: When I first came to visit you, I was impressed with you working on your rooftop, how does that embolden you when you create as opposed to sitting in a studio?
MA: I come from a working-class family. To be working on a roof in the West Village, I have to pinch my arm every time I go up there and I hope I one day will be worthy of such an honor. How I got up there is a story I will tell you when I meet you again, for you are my friendand I hope through your words many of your readers will come and visitme on the roof and see the stars together with me and taste a glass of champagne, for we are all sisters and brothers.
SCV: Do you think being a femme fatale as you have become has made your work that more valuable or can one suggest that that experience has allowed you to cross boundaries as an artist?
Fantastic article, when you have something more than the art to relate to, in this case Aulie’s family dilemma, it transforms it to an incredibly compelling story. I am looking forward to hearing more on her and will be checking out her gallery in the west village.
