First Impressions: A Night At HEIST Gallery.

Talia traveled with her grandmother and soaked up the understanding and appreciation necessary to breathe life into a gallery. Between farewells to certain guests (in Turkish) and making the rounds with party-goers to ensure all was well, Talia made time tonight to praise her latest discovery: “Finding a new artist is like finding a diamond in the rough. It’s exciting. They don’t know how good they are. Yet.”

Another soldier in the fight to promote artistic excellence was Mark Langrish. He’s had the opportunity to see plenty of work come through Heist, and said of Sadie’s work, “Its brightness fills the space. There hasn’t been a piece like it in the gallery before.  What I love about the piece is that you can interpret anything from it.”

Faithful friends of Sadie have long believed she was destined for great things. Said high school friend Penny Hardman, “I always said, ‘I can’t wait for you to get out of Salina [Nebraska] and do what you’re meant to do.’”

Of course, no picnic is without its ants. One spotty-faced teen was kindly asked not to lean against the paintings. It’s only too bad no-one told him his fly was down… Still. Better to break them of bad habits when they’re young.

Sadie’s work will shine on Essex street through February 28thHeist manager Teresa Baker said, “We’re excited to see how her work keeps progressing.  We have big hopes for her.”

At the end of it all, I couldn’t resist asking Ms. Weis one final time how it felt to have a gallery opening in New York. “I feel good,” she said. “All the most beautiful people in my life came to this place. I feel fabulous.”
