‘Brianah,’ the little girl that can.

B: I was in Florida with my parents at a karaoke bar and then it was my turn to sing and after I finished singing everyone in the room was kind of looking at me with their mouths open. That’s when my parents decided that maybe it would be a good idea to enroll with Christina.

(‘Briana’ has effectively been studying with Christina since June 2009 and according to Christina commits many hours a week singing at the conservatory).

SCV: Is this normal? To take a young girl and manufacture her into a young starlet?

CC: First of all to use the word manufacture is the wrong word- I would use groom, and with Brianah it’s inevitable that she comes to the fore. She’s one of those rare girls that come along once in a lifetime. Really with a talent like that, you are almost obliged to bring it out to the public and share it.

SCV: What do you think Brianah? Don’t you miss all your friends back home?

B: Actually, I think all my friends are jealous that I’m here, and really I know they’re also very excited for me and I really love singing – it means everything to me.

SCV: How then does one in fact ‘groom’ a ten year old girl?

CC: By planning for the long run, to instill within them an artists sensibility, to challenge her vocally, sustain a mandate and by being very selective in what kind of recording material she covers, something that a lot of ‘Brianah’s peers can relate to.

(It’s at this point that I get a chance to listen to Brianah’s lead single – ‘Hide and seek in the dark.’ And as much part of me is resistant to heroic young girls music, even I at this stage am listening in awe and tapping my foot wildly, carefully casting my eye on the young girl once the crescendo climax comes, only to find her mouthing the words and feeling the tempo innately. )

I think what’s important is to epitomize Brianah’s personality and from there to create a brand image, something a lot of kids her age and parents can relate to.

SCV: What happens from here?

CC: We’ll Brianah is now starting to get some radio promotions and from there it’s an orchestrated pitch to distributers, producers and using the mediums that are possible to get people to notice Brianah.

SCV: Isn’t she on some level being deprived her childhood?

CC: If anything she is embracing it, reflecting on it and sharing it. The ultimate goal is to shape Brianah into a long standing artist, and I think it’s marvelous that she has discovered her talents at such a young age and that she is always surrounded by a support network that seeks to nurture her and guide her as she develops into her own.

SCV: So what do you think Brianah, are you the next Taylor Swift?

(for a while she looks at me, Christina, to the thing in the back of her mind before humming)

B: Yes, I like to think so. Why not?

(it’s at this moment that the room bursts out into laughter as it is suddenly understood that this young lady means business and if anyone can impart an impact as a young talent prodigy it’s the little girl with the wild blonde locks and pink pumps…)
