An oversized western hat and delightfully soft fur vest caught my attention. Artist and model, Eddy Bogaert, commented on Gang Gang Dance “The music is a mixed eclectic feel of three or four different bands: Bjork, TV on the Radio, Police Club, and MGMT. Excellent, but more appropriate for a downtown crowd.”

New York’s classic party crashers wafted amongst the crowd circumventing whispers that Kim Catrell, Lucy Lui, and Mario Cantone were among the attendees in our presence.

One, who openly admitted his stealthy entrance, commented, “this is the first party I crashed this week, its not bad, but it feels like a business event with this new age, cirque du soleil music…isn’t really my thing.” When I asked why he was still in attendance, he replied with (near) offense, “the free drinks of course.”

One corner held an odd quartet: two corporate men in overly starched white shirts, poorly pleated trousers, and receding hairlines with two beautiful women half their age and twice as stylish. The set-up suggested rent-a-date scenario and perhaps even bad porn, or just true love…

Components to a typical New York Party were present, but in the end at the stroke of midnight the Cinderella syndrome struck tune. The playful green and blue lights faded, the harsh yellow lights flashed on, the music died, and suddenly all the edgy artists weren’t so edgy anymore. With the perfect ambiance gone, we quickly left the tired eyes, crows feet, and dirty bra straps. What it could have been and

what it was- it left us $100 hole in our pocket, a little buzzed, and hungry for more art week events.

Corporate regalia, down town cheek bones aside we’d probably spend the $100 again, after all there was love in the air…and yes all those free drinks, at least that’s what we were told.
