ART ATTACK BASEL.
After a week in boring Boca Raton, we ventured forth to Southbeach’s Art Basel the penultimate art fair. Arriving at the newly nearly renovated Hotel Shelbourne, we were at the nexus of activity. Euro refuse was in evidence as well as banana republicans with tons of disposable cash to “invest” in fine art.
Our first stop after checking in was the tony W Hotel who hosted the welcome launch party for the fair. The gigantic pool area was awash in food and drink. The crowd was mixed with lots of Euro types and South Americans who still puff away and air kiss ad nauseum.
The second and final stop was Peter Brandt’s Interview Mag Ferrari bash at the most beautiful garage in the world at 1111 Lincoln Road. Models and the men who chase them were out in force and Italian was the lingo of choice. We glimpsed reclusive bat dude Val Kilmer, artist bad boy Damien Hirst, good catch Wendi Murdoch, billion heiress Dasha Zhukova and Mr Brandt who greeted us warmly. Everyone received red Ferrari scarves(shieding us from the winds and plummeting temps) to commemorate the unveiling of the 458 Italia Spider. Sweet Ride! The hardy continued onto Soho House for the champagne soaked after party.
