Anyone for some beef Wellington?
Bovinae. Despite their quite frightful physique, cattle, buffalo, and the like are actually quite peaceful, anxious animals. Many a friend I’ve taken up to the old buffalo farm where I grew up, and many are surprised to find how the beasts cow away from you in fear at the slightest movement. Don’t piss them off, though. (There’s a story there, but please, don’t get me started).
A Radyr, Cardiff woman has learned as much when she was walking her dog in a field popular for strolling, BBC reports. Reporters talked to the man who found her body, who said the woman was probably using a blocked-off path, then fell prey to cows protective of their calves. South Wales Police arrived quick to the scene, suspecting foul play but finding little evidence to suggest anything other than a tragic trampling. Two years ago, there was another accidental death related to trampling in that very town.
Let this be a warning, then, to all those cow-tippers out there. Cattle, like all of nature, can be dangerous. Any ton of pure muscle cannot lay dormant for so long. I’d look sideways at any cow I pass from here on out. They’re not to be trusted. Now off to dinner…
