On Sat. March 26th Munch Gallery held their “To: Japan/Love, New York…” Art Auction Benefiting Victims of the Japan Earthquake and the Pacific Tsunami. With the artist-and-attendees’ over the top outfits it was hard to tell if people where actually there to buy art (or show off their style).
Most of the individuals decked out in outlandish outfits simply drank wine and socialized. With the works starting bids cheaply priced (except the work donated by Terence Koh starting out at $800) at $20- $100 one would expect to see alot of bidding. However the bidding was relatively slow paced(Although encouraged heavily).
Muffinhead’s showstopping get-up was a spectacle that created an atmosphere of care free expression that mirrored the works up for auction.
