Guests clustered around to congratulate Beatrice, flawlessly elegant in a soft anthracite suit, and included “friends from every company I’ve ever worked for, friends who all had a very positive influence in my personal and professional life.” No-one you’ve ever heard of, really, Beatrice only worked for the most prestigious of all French Fashion Houses, the very ones that collectively defined Haute Couture.

Manager of the Yves Saint Laurent New York boutique at the ripe old age of 25, she was to be the Vice-President of the US branch of the legendary couturier in 1969. (what a rotten year to find yourself in New York, don’t you think?). The ambassador pointed out she was what one calls an entrepreneur, here in America, launching her own line of fine home furnishing in 1984. In 1990, it took her about a year to get from Chief Merchandiser for Christian Dior to Vice-President of the company. But there was a name still missing in her MVP fashion roster. In 1997 she became the president of the US banner of a little house called Givenchy. Since 2002 she has been once again focusing on her work as consultant for luxury companies.
