The fugitive wife of a murdered police patrolman wanted for questioning in the death of her Worcester, Massachusetts police officer husband has been found dead.
Karen Solomon, 58, fled the couple’s Worcester area home after a warrant was issued for her arrest in connection with the slaying of her husband, Kurt Solomon, 57, last week.
On Monday afternoon, Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier announced that medical workers at the Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital found her body in a wooded area near a medical facility.
Domestic violence and Worcester cop murder-suicide
A handgun was found near the body, which is awaiting official identification, he said. It is unclear when the death occurred, though police confirmed that there were no reports of a gunshot in the area on Monday, ABC News reported.
A warrant had been issued for Solomon’s arrest on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing bodily injury in relation to the murder of her veteran cop husband. Kurt Solomon had been with the Worcester Police Department for 31 years and was nearing retirement.
The police patrolman was found dead at the couple’s Worcester home, west of Boston, just before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. Karen Solomon was last seen walking in the area wearing pajama shorts and a tank top, and police said she was ‘presumed to be armed and dangerous.’
Authorities have not said how Kurt Solomon died but described his death as ‘an act of domestic violence.’
‘We believe this case is a tragic muder-suicide that occurred, and we still have plenty of work to do as far as wrapping up all the pieces to this,’ Saucier said during a Monday press conference. He added that a handgun was found near the body.
The official further added that there was no prior history of domestic abuse in the family.
Fugitive wife seen close to family’s Worcester home minutes after dead cop’s body found
Solomon according to released surveillance was last seen entering nearby Coes Pond. Saucier said the body was found 0.6 miles away from the pond.
Saucier read a letter from the couple’s family on Monday, which read in part, ‘The nightmare of the past week has left our family heartbroken and rudderless,’ adding that they were grateful for the officers investigating the case.
Police have been combing the Worcester neighborhood in search of Solomon. The discovery comes just one day before her husband’s wake and two days before his funeral.
Last Thursday, Worcester Police shared footage of the alleged killer wife strolling outside a veterinary medical facility about a mile from the crime scene shortly after her police officer’s slaying.
Solomon can be seen slouching slightly as she walked past the animal center, and at one point glancing over her left shoulder.
The Ring security video was filmed at about 5.40am last Tuesday – roughly 10 minutes after officers found her husband dead inside their Wildwood Avenue home.

At a press conference last week, Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early would not disclose how Kurt died, describing the situation as a domestic incident.
The couple’s Webster Square neighborhood has been rocked by the tragedy, with neighbors saying there were no warning signs.
Karen and Kurt Solomon had lived inside their $370,000 Wesley Square home for several years and were the parents to two sons.
Karen Solomon was known as a champion for first responders after co-founding First H.E.L.P., a group advocating for the mental health of police officers.
She also wrote two books about the physical and psychological experiences of emergency responders, including ‘Hearts Beneath the Badge,’ which recounted good deeds performed by law enforcement.
