A University of Georgia student is recovering in ICU after surviving a fall from an eighth-floor apartment window in Athens, Georgia.
Kristin Sargent, 21, a senior at UGA studying finance and marketing, fell from an eighth-floor apartment at The Rambler on West Broad Street on Saturday, Sept. 26. At the time, Sargent was dancing on a couch near a window at her apartment when she suddenly fell out of the eight story structure.

The freak accident led to Sargent suffering several broken bones and now recuperating in intensive care according to the student’s father, Richard Sargent.
‘As you can imagine, pretty badly beaten up and we’re lucky she’s alive and we’re blessed,’ the parent told Channel 2 Action News.
Asked how the near fatal episode happened, the father told Channel2 the incident happened after the Georgia Bulldogs beat the Oklahoma Sooners 41-13 on Saturday.
‘University of Georgia just won a football game,’ Richard told Channel2. ‘I bet there were a lot of kids here who were 21 years old who were super happy.’

‘She was talking to one of her friends and saying, ‘Hey, I’m alive. I can’t believe it’,’ the parent said.
Added the father, ‘She’s a good fighter, and so she’s going to be OK.’
Witnesses reportedly said a lounge chair may have broken her fall before she hit the ground.
The episode led to the building where Sargent resides saying it was cooperating with investigators and reminding residents of safety limiters installed on windows throughout the complex, along with warning occupants not to ‘tamper with, remove or disengage’ the devices, according to Channel 2.
Not immediately clear is whether the window Kristin Sargent fell from had a safety limiter engaged or if it played a role in the incident or how it may have come to be dislodged or altered.
