Renee Good Minneapolis mom shot dead by ICE agent was part of school activist group trained to document and resist ICE agents and her road blockade may have been part of the ‘anti-ICE warrior’s routine to stymie and provoke agents.
A report has alleged that a Minneapolis mom who was fatally shot by an ICE agent during a roadside confrontation was an ‘anti-ICE warrior’ and part of a group of activists who worked to ‘document and resist’ the federal immigration crackdown in Minnesota.
Renee Nicole Macklin Good, 37, who moved to the city last year, linked up with the anti-ICE activists through her 6-year-old son’s charter school, dedicated to actively resisting ICE.
Was Minneapolis woman shot dead provoking & stalking ICE?
‘She was a warrior. She died doing what was right,’ a mother named Leesa, whose child attends the same school, told the nypost during a Thursday night vigil.
‘[Renee Good] was trained against these ICE agents — what to do, what not to do, it’s a very thorough training.’
As part of the training, Good allegedly learned to listen to commands and to understand her rights.
‘I know she was doing the right thing. I watched the video plenty of times but I also know in my heart the woman she was, she was doing everything right,’ Leesa said.
The school where the ‘activist’ parents met boasts its own social awareness causes, in which students are encouraged to champion a ‘social justice first’ approach to learning and ‘involving kids in political and social activism’.
Was Minneapolis ICE agent justified using lethal force?
Good who had fled to Canada following Trump’s presidential win in 2024, relocated to Minnesota with her wife, Rebecca Good, before enrolling her children at the ‘socially activist’ woke school.
It was there that Good is alleged to have became involved in the school community and the local ‘ICE Watch’ group, which is a coalition of activists who seek to disrupt ICE raids.
As part of their mantra, activists use phone apps to alert residents of ICE vehicles and operations, honk their car horns to warn their neighbors if they see immigration agents and whistle as a signal to those around them.
Leading up to the shooting tragedy, video showed ICE agents approaching Good’s stationary vehicle which blocked the road, demanding that she get out of her car, including one agent tugging at the door handle before Good sought to flee the scene.
It was there that one of the ICE agents, Johnathan Ross stands in front of the car and draws his weapon, pointing it at Good as she starts moving forward, and firing off one shot, and then another two shots even as Good’s vehicle had passed the agent as he now leans into the driver’s side to get his extra shots in. Good’s Honda Pilot crashed nearby and she was declared dead at the scene.
Minneapolis ICE agent went overboard says FBI official
While social media commentators have debated whether ICE agent Johnathan Ross had acted recklessly, and whether he ought to now face charges, legal scholars have held that irrespective of whether Good intended to hit the agent or not, what matters is whether the agent at the time believed themself and others to be in danger.
Stated one legal conservative scholar; ‘It matters what the officer can reasonably perceive. He can’t read her mind. He just knows that you have someone who’s ignoring lawful commands, who is moving the car toward him. That is deadly force.’
Others meanwhile wondered whether Ross had used his badge as an opportunity to ‘punish’ and mete out his own brand of justice after Good failing to follow orders, raising the question had Ross abused his position of authority? Or whether the state had sanctioned the use of violence with zero impunity to its actors.
