Liam Payne suicide death or accident? How the One Direction star spiralled out of control, deep in drug and alcohol abuse, amid tumultuous love relationships and trashed hotel room before falling (jumping?) out of a Buenos Aires hotel room to his death.
Grim photos have been released ‘allegedly’ showing a deluge of drugs and alcohol in former One Direction star, Liam Payne’s ’smashed up’ hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The images come in the aftermath of the former teen ‘heart-throb’ falling (throwing oneself ?) from his 3rd floor balcony as cops now seek to find his dealer.
The images — verified by Argentina’s La Nacion — reportedly show a smashed television, a half-empty glass of what appeared to be champagne, and foil and powder (cocaine, heroin…???) scattered across Payne’s third-floor room at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel.

Photos of a desk show a Dove soap packet, an empty glass and the remains of a burned candle and the burned top of a drink can — along with traces of a white powder that authorities will test to confirm suspicions it could be cocaine, La Nacion reported.
There was also wax and burned foil in the bathtub, according to La Nacion, according to official sources involved in the singer’s apparent suicide death investigation.
Equally disconcerting was video the singer shared on Snapchat showing the singer with deep grooves under his eyes, repeatedly saying ‘it was a beautiful day,’ (it clearly wasn’t) with his American girlfriend sitting in the far side of the room, tersely responding.
The tragedy comes less than a day after Argentinian officials received a 911 call around 5 p.m. about an ‘aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol,’ according to Pablo Policicchio, communications director for the Buenos Aires Security Ministry.
Trashed hotel room full of drugs
Policicchio claimed Wednesday that Payne, ‘had jumped from the balcony of his room.’
Sources close to the investigation also told the newspaper that Payne’s body was found on the ground floor with ‘a bottle of whiskey, a lighter and a cellphone.’
Police also found several blister packs of medication, including Clonazepam (a drug which is used to control epilepsy, involuntary muscle spasms and panic disorders), energy drinks and other over-the-counter remedies, the outlet reported.
Verification of the startling photographs came as Argentinian officials vow to hunt down the drug dealer who provided Payne the illicit substances found inside his room, the outlet reported.
Payne had arrived in South America with his ‘model’ influencer girlfriend, Kate Cassidy on September 30, staying in Argentina for two weeks after only planning to spend ‘five days’ there. There had been reports that the singer was getting out of bed late, past 1p.m.
Struggles with alcohol and substance abuse
On a number of occasions, the singer had been seen, ‘engaging with his fans.’ But privately it seemed the former heart-throb was deep in a series of depression and mental health issues.
Throughout his career, both while with One Direction and after the band split up, Payne had gone to rehab at least twice for alcohol addiction — and previously opened up about how his addiction made him feel suicidal.
‘I was worried how far my rock bottom was going to be. Where’s rock bottom for me? And you would never have seen it. I’m very good at hiding it. No one would ever have seen it,’ Payne said during a 2021 appearance on the ‘The Diary of a CEO’ podcast.
Rock bottom was so far, that not even Payne could see it coming. Or did he?
Adding fissure to the former heart-throb’s ‘tortured’ existence was a series of back to back tumultous love relationships that of his ex-fiancee, model, Maya Henry who in the days past had just released a series of social media videos where she claimed Payne had harassed her and her family even after their May 2022 breakup.
Henry had reportedly started legal proceedings and issued a cease and desist letter against the 31-year-old last week.
Tumultuous love relationships
Even more conjecture, was Liam’s relationship with American model Kate Cassidy who had fled returned to Florida after comments on social media inferring discord between the two, or at the very least, reservations from the 37 year old about continuing to be around Liam in ‘his current mindset’.
‘I was so ready to leave. Honestly, love South America, but I hate staying in one place for too long. And we were supposed to be there for 5 days, turned into two weeks and I was just like, ‘I need to go home,” she said in a TikTok video, which documented her trip back to the U.S.
The 37-year-old said she broke out in a weird rash before her flight due to anxiety, so, when she finally landed, she was ‘so happy to be home. It was so relieving.’
Two days later, Payne posted several social media videos, including one where he jokingly called his girlfriend a ‘loser’ for going home the dailymail reported.
The two had started dating shortly after meeting at a bar in Charleston, South Carolina, October 2022. It remained unclear the future of their relationship and whether it had ‘legs,’ and if the model had a tolerance for the singer’s ‘self destructive’ tendencies.
Working class roots
Medical officials said the singer fractured his skull and died instantly from ‘very serious injuries’ after the sudden fall.
Told a first respondent via La Nacion, ‘The team could do absolutely nothing. There was no resuscitation because it was confirmed that he had died. The whole body had very serious injuries.’
‘Based on what the team saw, there was apparently a cranial fracture and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death.’
The singer’s body has since been sent for an autopsy, officials said.
Payne sprang into stardom when he auditioned for ‘The X Factor’ in 2010 when he was just 16. He was placed in the boy band One Direction, alongside Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson and the group became a global phenomenon.
The band’s split started in 2015 when Malik left the group in the middle of their world tour. One Direction went on an indefinite hiatus the following year.
Payne leaves behind a son, Bear, 7, with his ex, singer Cheryl Cole. The heart-throb also leaves behind legions of fans and admirers who had watched his dizzy ascent into fame, riches and heart-break and self-capitulation.
It was all too much for the boy from Wolverhampton, West Midlands, England, the son of humble working class heroes… who would have wanted so much for their son.
Read a released family statement; ‘We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul. We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time.’
