The husband is alleged to have become ‘very upset’ after his wife refused to take a picture with him, law enforcement sources told Hawaii News Now.

The doctor also repeatedly punched his wife and hit her with the rock — and at some point, even tried to poke her with two syringes, according to the Honolulu Star Advertiser, which didn’t state on whether they contained drugs.

The assault led to Arielle Konig suffering egregious injuries, including multiple facial and head injuries following the attack which occurred early Monday. The victim was transported to the hospital in serious condition according to the Honolulu Police Department.

Arielle Konig reported to EMS she was assaulted with closed fists and an object the Star Advertiser reported.

Konig who was last seen around 10.30 a.m that morning, was arrested close to Pali Highway after a brief foot chase at around 6:45 p.m. Monday, roughly eight hours after the alleged attack.

Prior to his capture, authorities had described the wanted man as being 5 foot 9 and about 160 pounds with green eyes. He was last seen wearing a light gray shirt, light blue shorts and carried black bag.

Dream hike along Hawaii hiking trail turns into domestic violence

The couple have been married since 2018. Not immediately clear is if they had been embroiled in prior episodes of domestic violence.

Pali Lookout was closed for the rest of Monday following the incident, Hawaii’s Division of State Parks said in a statement on Monday.

Konig, who was employed by an independent contractor to provide medical services as an anesthesiologist in Maui, has been suspended, Maui Health said in a statement on Monday.

‘Maui Health is committed to patient safety and upholding the highest standards of care,’ the statement read.

Konig previously worked in Pittsburgh, where he was an attending anesthesiologist at a women’s hospital and an assistant professor of anesthesiology and bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh Schools of Medicine and Engineering, according to his biography. Konig hasn’t worked for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in over two years, a spokesperson for the medical center said.
