Eugenia Michele Wadman, Huron, Ohio woman freezes to death after falling while taking dog outside in the backyard. Autopsy scheduled.
Define tragedy? A 43 year old Ohio woman has died in freezing conditions after letting her dog outside in the backyard only to fall and literally freeze to death.
Eugenia Michele Wadman, 43, was found dead in her backyard on Jan. 19 just before 11 a.m., according to the Huron County Sheriff’s Office, WKYC reports.
Authorities say the dog owner stepped outside with her dog wearing only ‘light pajamas’ when misfortune unfolded.
Wadman ‘appeared to have fallen and sustained injuries consistent with struggling and crawling on the snow-and-ice-covered yard,’ the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
She is suspected to have died from hypothermia after being exposed to the mid-to-low 20-degree temperatures overnight.
‘Hypothermia likely set in quickly due to the mid to low 20-degree temperatures,’ the sheriff’s office said in a press release.
States the Cleveland Clinic: ‘Hypothermia occurs after exposure to cold, wet or windy conditions. Eventually, with continued exposure to cold temperatures, your body uses up its stored energy and your body temperature begins to fall. Hypothermia is a medical emergency and needs immediate treatment.’
The sheriff’s office said medical conditions may have contributed to Wadman’s death. An investigation is ongoing and awaits full autopsy results though no foul play is currently suspected.
Wadman’s dog’s condition remains unclear.
