Aaron Lynwood Carter, Fayetteville, North Carolina father charged in death of 2 year old son, River Carter, after ‘isolating’ boy in room for 12 hours with space heater on.

A North Carolina father is facing manslaughter and child abuse charges after allegedly leaving his 2 year old son in an ‘over-heated’ room for no less than 12 hours after turning on a space heater during December of 2023.

Aaron Lynwood Carter, 27, of Fayetteville, N.C was arrested almost two years after cops responded to the family’s residence following a December 2, 2023, 911 call about an unconscious toddler boy. Despite efforts to revive the boy, River Lynwood Carter was pronounced dead at the scene, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook release.

A subsequent investigation determined that the 2 year old boy had been ‘isolated’ in a room for more than twelve hours and had been exposed to elevated temperatures from a space heater prior to his death being reported. After reviewing the medical examiner’s findings, authorities arrested the child’s father, on January 7, 2025.

Carter was booked into the Moore County Detention Center on charges of involuntary manslaughter and child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury.

The parent remains held on a $500,000 bond and is due in court on Thursday.
