Nikita Jones, Raleigh, North Carolina mom punches 6 week old baby daughter in the face, leaves her unattended in freezing car as she goes to start her work shift at McDonald’s.
A North Carolina mother is accused of punched her 6-week-old daughter in the face along with leaving the infant girl alone in a car amid approaching freezing temperatures as she went to start her shift.
Nikita Jones, 21, is alleged to have left her 6-week-old baby in a cold car Nov. 20 in the parking lot of McDonald’s in downtown Raleigh amid 40 degrees Fahrenheit weather.
An arrest warrant stated the baby was found unrestrained in the back seat and the vehicle not running as Jones went to begin her shift at the fast food chain, kltv reported.
Childcare for 6 week old baby
Not immediately clear is how long the un-attended child was inside the frigid car.
Experts say it takes a matter of minutes for hypothermia to set in for an adult, let alone a baby as the air temperature begins to approach freezing (32F).
Police declined to release the child’s condition following the mother’s arrest.
A report via WRAL stated that following the mother striking the child in the face, the six week old girl was left with bruising around the face and eyes.
It remained unclear what childcare services the fast food worker was afforded or had access to, if any.
Jones was charged Monday with one count of misdemeanor child abuse and one count of intentional child abuse resulting in serious physical injury, WRAL reported. She was jailed on a $35,000 bond.
Jones is scheduled to return to court on December 19.
