Wisconsin authorities have revealed the family of an alleged 17 year old female shooting suspect has been cooperative with investigators following Monday’s deadly shooting at a Madison, Christian school which left 3 dead, including a student gunman.

While authorities declined to publicly identify the 17 year old female shooting suspect who allegedly gunned down a teacher and fellow student at Abundant Life Christian School then self, social media had identified the shooter as Natalie Lynn Rupnow, going by the name Samantha Rupnow.

‘We have initiated the search, but we think that search is either ongoing now or that search may be concluded,’ Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes told reporters.

How much did 15 year old’s family know ahead of school shooting?

Barnes told press that the law enforcement search of the family home was aimed at collecting computers and other personal electronics that would help establish the shooters so-called ‘digital fingerprints.’ Investigators also said they needed to rule out whether the teenager had help in orchestrating the 11 a.m. attack, or even just provided information to friends or family about a plan for violence.

‘We do not know that the shooter had any prior contact with law enforcement,’ Barnes told reporters. ‘We, you know, we’re not going to interrogate students. We’re going to give them an opportunity to come in and speak to what they may have seen when they feel ready.’

Police did say a 9mm handgun was used in the shooting. The 9mm pistol is in line with what is used in a majority of mass shootings, about twice as often as rifles or shotguns.

‘Why did this happen? What do we know? What was the motivation? I do not know. But, I will tell you this, our detectives are working hard on the investigative process to find out as many answers as we can so that we can further prevent these things from happening, not only in this community, but in other communities around our country,’ Barnes told reporters.

Barnes said police are speaking with Rupnow’s father to determine how much he might have known about the incident.

‘He lost someone, as well. And so we’re not going to rush the information, we’ll take our time and certainly do our due diligence,’ Barnes said.

Barnes said police currently have ‘no reason to believe’ that Rupnow’s parents have committed a crime.

Police said the next news conference about the shooting would be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday CT.
