A 26 year old person of interest on Monday was taken into police custody for questioning in connection to the shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO, Brian Thompson, 50, in Manhattan, last week. Police to date have ‘strongly’ indicated he is the wanted gunman, while to date no charges have been pressed.
Luigi Mangione, 26, from Baltimore County, Maryland, was apprehended at an Altoona, Pennsylvania McDonalds just on 9.15 am, Monday after a diner recognised him as the wanted man in the healthcare CEO’s slaying.

Upon being brought into custody, the ‘person of interest’ was discovered to be in possession of four fake ID’s and the type of distinct gun used in last week’s slaying along with a manifesto.
The manifesto was handwritten and criticized health care companies for putting profits above care, an anonymous law enforcement official told the New York Times.
The manifesto railed against the US healthcare industry, including over its enormous profits and alleged shady motives, sources told the nytimes.
Perhaps of greatest note, is Mangione’s cover photo on X under the banner, Luigi Mangione @PepMangione containing an image of an X-ray, leading to speculation about the status of his own health and detriment he may have incurred at the hands of UnitedHealthcare.
The image shows a stapled back with 4 screws bolted to his lower base spine. It remained unclear if the X-ray was that of Mangione.
