Aiken veterinarian shoots husband dead after filing for divorce

Dr. Jennifer Ray, South Carolina veterinarian shoots husband, Greg Baughman dead at their Aiken home amid ongoing disputes. Long time marine corps husband had recently filed for divorce. 

A South Carolina veterinarian is reported to have shot her husband dead in a ‘domestic’ incident Sunday late afternoon at their Aiken home, authorities said.

Dr. Jennifer Ray, 44, according to the Aiken Police Dept shot her 43-year-old husband, Greg Baughman repeatedly around 5 p.m. on Sunday at Prides Crossing. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables.

The Aiken vet was arrested and held on charges of murder and weapon possession. A murder warrant stated the woman shooting the victim, ‘multiple times in the back and multiple times while he was laying on the floor.’

Aiken husband had recently filed for divorce

While police declined to say what led to the husband’s shooting death, the couple are said to have had a history of domestic disputes, with the victim husband having recently filed for divorce. At the time of Baugham’s shooting death, the 43 year old man was living elsewhere, the Augusta Press reported.

The couple are well known in the community, having opened together the Hitchcock Animal Hospital in 2019. Dr. Ray had 14 years of experience as a veterinarian, while Greg Baughman had over 20 years of experience in supervision and management, including with UPS and the United States Marine Corps.

Friends described Baum as an active Marine reservist, a member of the USMC Reserve Marksmanship Team, and a veteran of two deployments to Iraq and two to Afghanistan and serving with the marines for over 20 years

Dr. Ray received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Carolina Aiken in 2007 and attended veterinary school at Tuskegee University.
