Christopher Farrell guns down San Diego married couple, Rachel Martinez and Jose Medina moments before order of protection hearing and after wife ended her affair with shooter who was killed in an ensuing gun battle with San Diego Harbor Police.
A California man alleged to have killed a husband and wife as they sat at a car park just moments before appearing at a court house to affirm their order of protection against the shooter was identified as the lover of the wife and a former security guard who was killed during an ensuing gun battle with responding San Diego Harbor Police.
Christopher Farrell, 26, is alleged to have fatally gunned down his two victims, 31 year old woman, Rachael Martinez, and her husband, 39 year old man, Jose Medina, after the couple had filed restraining orders against the gunman, who had been previously involved with the married woman.
Lethal love triangle
All three had been scheduled to appear Wednesday morning in front of a judge at 9am to ratify the order of protection only for Farrell to gun down the husband and wife just on 8.30am as they sat in their vehicle at a carpark.
At some point according to court records cited by CBS8, Martinez and Farrell were romantically involved with the wife later alleging sex crimes perpetrated against her.
The wife broke off the clandestine affair after Medina found out in late September. In weeks to come the married couple filed an order of protection against the security guard lover, the San Diego Union Tribune reported.
Reads a statement from the San Diego Police Department, ‘Rachel Martinez (victim) and Christopher Farrell (suspect) had a prior dating relationship. On October 4, 2024, Martinez filed a police report with San Diego Police accusing Farrell of domestic violence, including false imprisonment and sex crimes.
The investigating officers obtained an emergency protective order. They determined that Farrell was a security guard who worked for Inter-Con Security, which provides contract security guards for the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System. They responded to the MTS 3 office at 1600 Newton, arrested Farrell, and booked him into County Jail. Farrell was terminated from employment then, and his work firearm was taken from him.’
After the shooting Wednesday, Farrell was spotted by witnesses in Little Italy, who directed police to the wanted gunman who then engaged in a gun battle with officers with the San Diego Harbor Police Department, before being fatally shot.
According to cops, Farrell was shot several times. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
