A Georgia high school was put on lockdown, Wednesday morning following reports of an active shooter on school grounds.
Apalachee High School in Winder in Barrow County was placed in what school authorities described as a ‘hard lockdown’ following the shooting incident breaking out circa 10.20 am.
Initial reports told of at least two individuals being treated for gun-wounds and being taken to hospital by helicopter. The severity of their injuries to date remained unknown.

Identity of victims and gunman not made public nor severity of injuries.
The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that one person was taken into custody, FOX5 reported.
The identities of the wounded and the alleged gunman to date remained unknown.
‘Casualties have been reported, however details on the number or their conditions is not available at this time,’ the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
The outlet reported dozens of police vehicles from multiple organizations crowding the lawns outside the high school as police officers organized students in the athletic field area.
Heavy police presence continued to remain at the school.
According to U.S. News & World Report, there are approximately 1,900 students enrolled at the school. It is one of two high schools in the Barrow County Public Schools district.
The school is located about 40 miles northeast of Atlanta.
