Mississippi dad arrested after leaving 3 month old son to die in hot car (while at work)

Raphael Montgomery, Greenville, Mississippi father charged in the hot car death of his 3 month old son who was left in vehicle while he was at work. 

A Mississippi man has been arrested after leaving his 3-month-old son in a hot car while he was at work, leading to the child’s death. 

Raphael Montgomery of Greenville, was charged with Felony Child Deprivation of Necessaries with Substantial Harm and was being held in the Washington County Regional Correctional Facility awaiting an initial court appearance according to  Deltanews.tv.

Montgomery was arrested after the Greenville Police Department received a call from the 700 block of Manilla in reference to a father not bringing a child home. Officers reportedly contacted the child’s mother, who said that the child’s father left the 3-month-old child in the car while he was at work.

Officers then made contact with a local hospital, that reported that the child was deceased.

Weather reports indicated the temperature being 90 Fahrenheit during the course of the day on Monday. Not immediately clear is how long the boy had been left in the car and how the child came to eventually be found.

Mississippi is ranked 16th among all states for the number of overall hot car deaths among children nationally according to Hot Cars Resources – Kids and Car Safety.

According to No Heat Stroke, nearly 1,000 children have died in hot cars due to pediatric vehicular heatstroke since 1998.

The child’s death marks the 25th child to die due to heatstroke in a car nationwide this year and second in Mississippi.
