Kayden Ely 11 year old Georgia boy resorts to holding up sign to fund mom, Shannon Mount’s funeral and burial costs after woman dying after being put on life support following cardiac arrest.
An 11-year-old Georgia boy resorted to holding up a sign to raise money along railway tracks in a bid to raise fund to bury his recently deceased mom.
Shannon Mount, 45, went into cardiac arrest on July 8 and was put on life support until she died on July 18, reported WSBTV.
Her son Kayden Ely, 11, was observed standing railroad tracks along their small town in Lindale in the immediate days afterwards in a bid to raise money for his mother’s funeral.

‘Please help bury my Mama!’

The image, which showed the boy standing alongside his brother was posted on Rajeshkumar Miniyar’s Facebook page, who wrote in part: ‘Community we need your help.’
‘I came across a heartbreaking photo of two young boys holding a sign, asking for help to bury their mom. If anyone can confirm that this is a legitimate need, I would like to match dollar-for-dollar donations up to $1,000 to support this family.
‘If you have direct contact information for this family, please share it with me. I encourage everyone to donate directly to the family if possible.’
Family friend Jennifer Grissom started a GoFundMe page to help Kayden secure his mother’s funeral expenses.
Stated the fundraiser: ‘Shannon did not have life insurance, she has an 11-year-old that is left without the only thing he ever knew.’
With the help of his small town community and people online, the brothers were able to raise more than $11,000.
An update on the GoFundMe stated that any funds raised over the cost of the funeral would be used to help Kayden’s future.
Shannon was a mother of five and a grandmother of one. She was a ‘straight shooter. She didn’t sugarcoat anything and was always ready to tell you off if you needed it. She loved her kids fiercely, even when life got messy,’ her obituary read.
Along with holding up signs, Kayden sold hot dogs and drinks on the side of the road and left jars around town to collect donations towards his mother’s burial costs.
Mount’s funeral is set for July 27 at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home in Rome.
