A 19-year-old Texas woman is behind bars after police say she shot her 50-year-old mother in the head. The incident comes as the woman’s daughter claiming wanting to show her mother the handgun in her possession was not loaded. As it turned out. The weapon. Was indeed. Loaded. Bang.

Police responded to a 911 call about a shooting at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, July 8 at a Laredo residence. The caller reportedly said her daughter had just shot her in the head.

The suspect, 19-year-old Crystal Lissette Mar, was found a few blocks away from where the shooting happened, KGNS reports.

Cops said Mar was found with a 40-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun.

It remained unclear why the daughter fled the family home.

The victim heard a loud pop and realized she’d just been shot in the head

The unidentified victim, 50, was alive and was being treated at a local hospital. According to police, she was alert and speaking to officers.

The shooting comes as the daughter arriving at her mother’s home during the early hours of Saturday morning where she demanded to use her mother’s mobile phone, after ‘forgetting’ hers.

It was then that the mother noticed her daughter was carrying what appeared to be a handgun in her purse. Mar’s mother said she told her daughter that she did not want the weapon to be kept in the house and demanded that she remove the bullets and get rid of the firearm.

Mar’s mother said that her daughter then began to ‘tinker’ with the handgun and was ‘struggling to remove the magazine.’ Mar finally got the magazine out of the gun, but immediately afterward, her mother said she heard a ‘loud pop.’ That was when the victim realized she had been shot in the head.

Mar was charged with a felony for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and family violence. Mar is being held at the Laredo County Jail on $30,000 bond.

The police department’s Crimes Against Persons continues to investigate.
