Was it intentional? Hanford, California man, Rowdy Paulo charged with attempted murder after shooting into his neighbor’s home & striking a 5 year old boy in the head- following bout of recent neighbor clashes.

California police arrested a man Tuesday after allegedly firing a gun into his neighbor’s home and striking a five-year-old boy in the head while he was watching cartoons.

The boy and his 11-year-old brother were watching television in their living room in Hanford, Calif., Tuesday at the time of the shooting, Kings County Sheriff’s Office Commander Mark Bevens told the Fresno Bee.

Brandon Estrada Chavarin, 5, underwent surgery for brain hemorrhaging at Valley Children’s Hospital, his mother, Serapia Chavarin, told Fresno’s Fox 26. The boy was recuperating with the mother saying that ‘surgery went well.’

Police arrested Rowdy Paulo, 29, on suspicion of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon and other charges. Bevens said it was not immediately known if the shooting was intentional or accidental. Kings County detectives said that Paulo and the Chavarins had conflicts in the past while declining to provide details.

‘I thought it was a chair or something that fell down, but one of the kids yelled that Chino got shot,’ said the victim’s brother-in-law, Julian Moreno via ABC30.

The bullet entered the east side of the home, grazed the boy’s head, and went through another wall on the other side of the living room the uncle explained.

Investigators said a bullet recovered from an interior wall was similar to those in a .30-caliber gun found in Paulo’s residence. Police are working to determine if the gun was the same weapon used in the incident. Probation was able to search the suspect’s home as Paulo was already on probation for a previous DUI– Bevens said.

Rowdy Paulo remains in custody pending $800,000 bail.
