Chicago woman, Mariah Michelle Logan killed in hit and run after falling out of back seat of rental car while leaning out – minutes before arriving at Miami airport to return home.
A girls’ birthday trip to Miami has turned deadly when a 23-year-old woman fell out of the back seat of a rental car and was crushed to death by a hit-and-run driver just as she said, ‘Bye, Miami,’ according to authorities.
Mariah Michelle Logan, of Chicago, was headed back to Miami International Airport at about 4:45 a.m. Sunday along with three friends after three days of visiting South Beach, where the women were celebrating a birthday and enjoying spring break, the Miami Herald reported.
The group’s rental car, a 2019 Hyundai Accent, was just minutes away from the airport when Logan — who was ‘hanging out’ of the sedan’s window at the time — fell out of its right rear passenger seat as it changed lanes, and was killed by a passing Range Rover driven by an unknown male driver.
The driver of the Range Rover stopped briefly, but then fled, traveling westbound on State Route 112, near State Route 25. The incident is being investigated as a homicide, authorities said.
Mariah Michelle Logan boyfriend: ‘She was just being silly’.
‘She was just being silly,’ Logan’s boyfriend, Ray Olden, told the Herald. ‘She loved life.’
Olden confirmed that Logan’s friends told him that she was smiling as she said her last words just as she fell from the moving car. The other women in the vehicle — identified as Trina Frazier, 24, Aaliyah Frazier, 23, and Kenyatta Burch, 23 — called Olden immediately afterward, he said.
‘The moment it happened, saying that my baby was gone, fell out the window and was hit by a car,’ Olden recalled. ‘I started screaming and they were crying and said they had to call her sisters and that they were so sorry.’
Olden said Mariah Logan was celebrating Burch’s birthday and stayed in a hotel in Miami Beach during the three-day trip.
‘They are devastated, as am I,’ the boyfriend said. ‘There’s just a silence in the air. It’s not real yet.’
The couple of about a year had planned to take a cruise in August and were considering marriage, Olden said.
‘She brought energy and life,’ he continued. ‘She never looked at the bad. I was told I was a special man and she made me believe it. We had the next five years mapped out.’
Mariah Michelle Logan: Toxicology tests conducted.
Lt. Alejandro Camacho, a spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol, told the nypost that drug and alcohol testing was performed on Trina Frazier, who was driving the Hyundai. Those results are pending, he said.
It wasn’t clear if Mariah Michelle Logan herself was under the influence?
Camacho said witnesses to the deadly hit-and-run have been interviewed, but that information ‘won’t be available for at least 90 days’ pending the outcome of an investigation.
Logan’s sister, Xylina Griffin, said she wants the 23-year-old to be remembered for how she lived.
‘The way it happened, it’s not easy to accept a person going out like that,’ Griffin told WLS-TV. ‘She was an angel.’
