Connor Gage: University of Vermont (UVM) student freezes to death after a night of heavy partying as he tried navigating sub-zero temperatures after attending two frat parties.

A University of Vermont student, whose body was discovered in the snow, likely froze to death following a night of drinking.

Connor Gage, 19, of Little Falls, New York attended two frat parties before he was found unresponsive outside amid sub-zero temperatures Saturday morning in Burlington, Vermont, authorities said.

Surveillance footage showed the freshman trying to cut across a parking lot after a night of heavy partying, but was unable to get over a fence, according to Burlington Police.

The neuroscience major was alone and ‘inadequately dressed’ when he became trapped, authorities said. The temperature was between minus 1 degree and negative 4 degrees at the time, police said.

Connor Gage hypothermia death: A culture of trying to find one’s place on campus- but at what cost?

Emergency crews responded to a 911 call around 11 a.m. and attempted to resuscitate him to no avail.

A preliminary autopsy indicated Gage’s death was the result of exposure to the cold ‘exacerbated by acute intoxication.’

Define acute intoxication?

Despite Gage having attended UVM for less than two semesters, his hypothermia death is being felt across campus. School officials advised students staying with others and dressing appropriately.

School officials sent an email Tuesday urging students to take ‘all necessary precautions to keep themselves safe,’ according to the Times Telegram.

‘Regardless of the circumstances, this is a terrible tragedy,” the email said. “Our thoughts of care and sympathy remain with family and community members impacted by this incident, and we continue to offer counseling and support services to anyone who may need them.’

The university announced Tuesday that fraternity activities were suspended in the wake of Gage’s death.

Of note, no criminal charges will be filed as a result of Burlington Police’s investigation due to a lack of evidence of a clear criminal act the Burlington Free Press reported.
