Nakia Venant Facebook live suicide? What led to a 14 year old teen girl choosing to live stream her own suicide on social media?
Tragedy has come to the fore after 14 year old teen girl Nakia Venant live streamed her own suicide on Facebook after hanging herself in the bathroom.
The Sunday morning suicide which played out over the course of two hours circa 3 am took place in the girl’s Miami home bedroom while her foster parents slept in another part of the house.
The ‘spectacle’ comes just three weeks later after another teen, 12 year old Georgia girl Katelyn Nicole Davis live streamed her own suicide death on Facebook.
In an eerie tape (see here) the girl faced unseen audiences as she explained how she had been sexually abused by a relative and how that compelled her to take her own life as she then filmed herself stepping forward to put her head through a noose and jump off from the bow of a tree.
Some have even wondered whether the Cedartown, Georgia girl’s suicide may have somehow influenced Venant, as the morbid intrigue of broadcasting one’s own demise in front of large unknown audiences may somehow bestow a kind of celestial otherness to the teen’s otherwise painful and depressing existences.
Reflected one commentator on the web: ‘Unfortunately, I believe they think it’s the ultimate way to get the attention they need. For whatever reason I don’t think they realize the consequences of it the pain and the dying are very real.’

Gina Alexis Nakia Verant mother blames ‘the system’ for daughter’s suicide death
To date, the Florida Department of Children and Families offered few details come Tuesday about the weekend death-by-suicide Venant.
At the time police had responded to a call by one of the girl’s friends who had watched the suicide unfolding only to arrive at Venant’s home to find the teen hanging from the door frame in the bathroom after having first gone to the wrong house.
Officers and a fire-rescue crew tried to resuscitate Venant, but their efforts were unsuccessful and she was taken to Jackson North Hospital and announced dead.
A report via the Miami Herald told of the un-identified friend watching some of Venant’s two-hour livestream in the early morning hours of Sunday and becoming concerned called Miami-Dade police.
According to an incident report released by the DCF, Venant tied her scarf to a ‘shower glass door frame’ for the purpose of killing herself just after 3am Sunday.
Child social services and Miami Gardens police are now investigating the circumstances of the girl’s suicide.
It is believed Nakia used Facebook Live to broadcast her suicide, although it has not been confirmed as of Wednesday morning notes the dailymail.
Told Mike Carroll, of the Florida DFC: ‘We are absolutely horrified and devastated by the news of this young girl’s death,’
‘We will do everything we can to support this family and all those who cared for her as they begin to heal from this tragedy.’
Nakia Venant was a native of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and was enrolled in the seventh grade at Young Women’s Preparatory Academy. She is survived by a younger brother.
As news of Nakia’s death spread online, commentators took to the girl’s Facebook page, under the user name ‘HotHead Nikee,’ to express their condolences and pay tribute to the teen.
Among the mourners was a woman who characterized herself as Venant’s mother who sought to shed light on the girl’s turbulent childhood.
‘I was showing you tough love when u misbehaved,‘ she wrote, claiming that Nakia had gone to jail twice, got expelled from two or three schools, had sex, smoked marijuana and drank alcohol.
‘You wasn’t supposed to even have access to Internet as part of your case,’ she went on to say of Nakia. ‘The system has failed us……’
While close friend, Gerta Telfort described Nakia as a good student with lots of charisma.
She said Nakia, a seventh-grader at Young Women’s Preparatory Academy, hoped to one day write a book and had started a daily journal. Nakia, her mother’s only girl, had a younger brother.
Based on her social media history, Nakia was a prolific Facebook user.
One of her last status updates appeared on her page on the eve of her suicide. Chillingly, the message read: ‘Need Plans For Tmr #CommentsSuggestions’
