The 67 year old man’s body was discovered on the Manhattan bound L train at the Lorimer St- Metropolitan avenue stop at 2 am.
At the time of the man’s discovery he was thought to be merely asleep, as he was observed to be sitting upfront. But transit workers discovered otherwise.
As passengers were prodded to alight the L train in lieu of overnight system maintenance, workers noted the man had yet to alight.
Told a transit source: ‘He was sitting up and appeared to be sleeping,’
‘One of the workers tried to wake him and was unable to wake him.’
According to the nydailynews, investigators haven’t been able to pinpoint when the man died, nevertheless they believe he was discovered soon after dying.
Area cops and transit workers knew the dead man and had ‘offered him services’ in the past.
‘It was someone we’ve been in contact with in the past,‘ a police source said.
Added the source: ‘He was sitting up and appeared to be sleeping. One of the workers tried to wake him and was unable to wake him.’
At present it has not been disclosed what led to the homeless man’s death or why he may have declined ongoing services. His name has yet to be released pending contact of next of kin.
