abuse that took place the entire time I worked there. Anyway, I had to bring in two doctor’s letters to state what was obvious & legal to everybody else. The first letter at 7 months along, stating that I could not be on ladders or step stools. The second letter while I was heavily knocked up at 8 months stating that I couldn’t lift or push anything over 35 lbs. My “team leader” continued to disregard these letters…. bitch “forgot I was pregnant, since she never has been pregnant herself.”

As one can see, not a fantastic attitude towards employees. Actually quite shameful, but then again, are you surprised that you need a letter documenting so and so in an institutional setting?

Workers rights:

Employees are fired for trying to unionize. Everyone in the store knows not to even say the word union or they’ll make up a reason to fire you.

Same story across corporate America. Got to keep the rich get richer and the poor poorer dream up and running. This is capitalism kids, so please let’s wipe away the faux tears of civil expectations. They don’t exist in this forum, even if they should.

Pay:

Rates of pay (minimums and ceilings) were never adjusted in the 5 years I worked for WFM. However, their rates of pay far exceed the market for this type of job.

The moral of the story? Corporate America and institutional dogma will always ensure you will have a delicious numb smacking lunch at the expense of everyone else’s sanity getting to you. But it’s worth it right to know you can belch in the full knowledge that your meals are leaving a happy feeling in your stomach?

Who knows, maybe one day you’ll grow a few veggies on the window sill and do away with the complexities and injustices of corporate America. Or maybe you wont…
