Although who did show up and end up completely shit faced was socialite/bon vivant UK export and prolific writer Anthony Haden Guest who once again managed to make a spectacle of himself by collapsing on the floor in heap. Oh dear Anthony….
That said, the highlight of my evening was meeting the family of Ms. Kaplan who I must say were amongst the nicest and polite people one could ever want to meet. Danae Nanique, a second cousin of Zelda Kaplan, was my cohort for the majority of the evening as I poked around the outside deck and awed at the interior rooms of this elaborate venue. I was later formally introduced to Zelda who gave me sound advice about traveling the world and “getting away from it all.” She highly recommended I begin my journey in Mali. Well, Ms. Kaplan… we’ll just see about that.”
