Bodies powdered white, like dough– emerged unto the Rose Theater stage, representing Robert Wilson’s “Snow on the Mesa.” Ready to mold and to be molded by the spaces before them, the Martha Graham Dance company featured a remarkable, life changing performance.
An international treasure, a pioneer of experimental performance art theater, Wilson’s play with light, color, space and time manifested into several key performances, last night. They mark his recognition that faces, emotions, and outcomes constantly change.
Part I began with the “The Wolf Wife,” which segued to the “Shaker Interior,” starring Xiachuan Xie and Tadej Brdnick. White, light costumes against a simple blue background and Asian fluid staccatos joined together to provide ease and beauty.
