Kevin Roman, 36, a Bay Shore L.I. resident, who was said by family members to suffer from drug and alcohol addictions, was found dead in his car from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police believe he could have died as long ago as last Wednesday.
Roman’s lifeless body was found around 12:30, nearly a week after the snow. Anguished relatives identified him in the early hours of the morning.
NY Daily News: The dead man’s car was parked at the intersection of 162nd St. and Laburnum Ave. in Flushing.
And the preoccupation with the snow and ice, paired with the excruciatingly difficult travel throughout the city’s blustery mess, was surely enough to distract passerby from the gruesome scene in their midst…
One resident, who lives across the street, said he never heard a shotgun blast – and the heavy snowfall made the car blend in.
There is something to be said about the juxtaposition of the bloody, tragic mess, kept concealed under a blanket of pure white snow. Was it Kevin’s wish that the snow would encapsulate his car, keeping him shielded and preserved from a cold, cruel, world that he no longer wanted to be a part of?
Unfortunately, only Kevin Roman knew that answer.
