NYRP Picnic A Mystery, Journalists Told to Leave.

The fire started in the kitchen. A flaming waiter (on fire) burst out of the mansion, a fiery windmill of limbs, before someone used the last of the fire extinguisher’s reserve to put him out. (He’s fine. The mansion is not.) Actress Nikki Blonsky carried the Mayor to safety, who had passed out from smoke inhalation.

… “Your coverage is invited.”

None of the above actually happened. It could’ve. I don’t know. Nikki Blonsky looks like she can take care of herself. There were robins in the trees, someone pointed them out to me. So you know that much is accurate.

Ultimately, I hope this brief scolding will serve to mend your ways. If you want to have a private night, have a private night. If you’re going to invite the Press, actually invite us. I could’ve been at home, enjoying LA Noire for cryin’ out loud.

Not that it wasn’t a lovely day for a picnic.

  1. NYRP while admittedly does good works in “breathing new life into New York’s parks and playgrounds by donating and planting new trees in all five boroughs” is essentiallty the philanthropic celebrity arm of Bette Midler Inc. The New York Restoration Project is officially a non-profit organization dedicated to reclaiming and restoring New York City parks, community gardens and open space. In partnership with the City of New York. The organization depends on philanthropy from a wide variety of sources, including the city of New York as well as local volunteers, hence one would think that they would be a tad more diplomatic if not “democratic” considering the public trust. Yet to date as you rifle through the press clippings, much of the press coverage of this organization has notoriously centered almost exclusively around this one individual, Bette Midler, almost excessively actually.
