Claiming to be a “lover of the night,” Rad Hourani, who uses mostly black, draws in powerful colors like red or navy, everyone once in a while. For his fall 2011, however—he sticks to a gray and black color palette. Half his models were men, the other half were women—the two, indistinguishable, in almost every way. Slicked back hairdos, neutral make up, tights, vests, jumpers, coats, boots and sweaters dressed both, with no one gender specific article on anyone model, boy or girl. Belts, zippers and pockets liberally adorn and enhance the neutral foundations.

Gender agnosticism best characterizes this Gothic cult wear, which combines fashionable classics with new trends. All leather ensembles are his signature looks—which over time have come to be paired with sleek spandex and semi-sheer spandex. High-collared dresses, draped over long sleeved t-shirts, leggings and tanks, accentuate the male and female curvatures, in the most delightful ways.  The triangular coat flaps and oversized silhouettes evoke something of the future, and the mystery of night. Zippers, pockets and belts are too, meticulously placed so to enhance the body’s natural curvatures.
