This article updates the oft-cited issue of the lack of racial diversity on the runways and in print campaigns, and spends many paragraphs bemoaning the difficulties blacks face in the notoriously whitewashed industry. This article loses a little punch, however, when you notice that even black designers like Samuels are still overwhelmingly using white runway models. I don’t really want to criticize Samuels for this – her show was still more diverse than most – but I find it somewhat curious when even the audience for a show is proportionately so much blacker than the models we were watching.
