SCV: What of this concept of “bitches” in Hip-Hop?

Bud: I kind of ride the fence; it is kind of disrespectful, but there’s a difference between a bitch and a sista. A bitch is a nag, someone who goes out there and looks for money or some other form of comeup. A sista is someone who takes care of her own, has a job, pushes her own whip, keeps the stove warm… if your not a bitch, don’t take it offensive. In the rap industry, there must be a lot of bitches out there. So, they’re referred to a lot.

SCV: What do you mean, “the industry”? Is it beneficial, or is it counterproductive?

Bud: I ride the fence on that too. I’d have to say, I think it’s more productive, more beneficial. People say Hip-Hop is fucked up right now, every beat sounds alike, all the lyrics sound alike, but at the same time, you have that, whack as lyrics, selling millions, but then you have real lyricists, Rakim, Raekwon… and no one is interested. Recently, Nas dropped The N Word, and it didn’t even pop off, and that whole CD was just facts. Pure facts the whole way through.

SCV: Where do you intend to go with your music?

Bud: Well, the last thing I did was at the Producer’s Club, that competition. I won, but that whole thing I was supposed to get, the photo shoot, the interview with Hot 97, it was all bullshit, the guy was a bullshit artist. So, I’m just known locally. A lot of niggas in the hood respect my shit, and that’s a good feeling.

SCV: Is a rapper more a writer or a musician?

Bud: I think they’re more musicians. They’re artists. I know I’m an artist. We just go with pure emotion, that’s what an artist does. Painters, they might paint a picture, and you wouldn’t even know what the fuck it is. But it sells for millions of dollars because sometimes, you can just feel the emotion in what we painted.  But I can also say that we’re both. We bring writing and music together. That’s what rap is. Writing and music and art.
