Saylor Hayes found dead: Body of missing 5-year-old non verbal girl found in waters near where she last seen on Pawleys Island, South Carolina while staying with her Bristol, Washington County, Virginia family as mom, Geordyn Hayes addresses media. Cause of death yet to be determined. 

The body of a 5-year-old non verbal girl who went missing on Sunday was found on Monday morning, officials said.

Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office in a Facebook release announced that South Carolina Department of Natural Resources agents found Saylor Hayes (previously reported as Sailor Hayes) at around 9:45 a.m. in the waters near where she was last seen.

‘Hundreds of residents from the area searched their own properties and surrounding areas and guarded local docks,’ the post stated. ‘The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office thanks everyone who assisted in the search and sends its deepest condolences to the young girl’s family.’

‘We’re so sorry for this outcome. No doubt about it,’ Georgetown County Sheriff Carter Weaver said.

Officials said Saylor wandered away from a rental property in the Hagley Estates community on Pawleys Island on Sunday morning, prompting a multi- search for the girl.

Pawleys Island multi search parties for missing non-verbal 5-year-old

State law enforcement partners aided in the search, including the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division, the Horry County Fire Department, and other Georgetown rescue agencies, as well as hundreds of residents.

GCSO expressed its gratitude to those who assisted in the search.

Officials described Saylor as being 3’6” with blond hair and blue eyes and last wearing a one-piece light blue bathing suit and a pink and white lanyard around her ankle. Authorities stated the missing 5-year-old being nonverbal, who would positively respond if approached calmly and slowly.

Missing 5-year-old non verbal girl’s mom addresses media

The girl and her family who hailed from Bristol, Washington County, Virginia were vacationing on Pawleys Island at the time of the girl’s disappearance.

Of note, a report via GAB News cited Geordyn Hayes, the mother of 5 year old Saylor Hayes, talking to searchers in her front yard. The parent said the sheriffs office  confiscating the phones of both her and her husband. One of the searchers allowed her to use her phone for a little while.

The mom also said her and her husband have been ordered not to leave the home.

Officials to date have not indicated any foul play or pointed to any inconsistencies that would implicate the girl’s parents.

The Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office posted on social media Sunday, stating Hayes is a local Project Lifesaver client. Project Lifesaver is a program that equips certain at-risk people with devices that can help authorities locate them in the event that they go missing.

Stated the post in part, ‘We are deeply grateful to every person who searched, shared information, prayed, and helped in any way.

Today, our hearts are simply with Saylor. 💙

Rest peacefully, sweet Saylor.’

Officials are now set to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
