Two daughters returning home from school found their parents dead from gunshot wounds in an apparent murder-suicide at their Las Vegas apartment.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police received a call on Monday, August 24, circa 3.30 p.m, from one of the girls, a teen, saying she had just returned home from school and found her mother and father both shot at a residence on South Nellis Boulevard, FOX5 reported.
‘Upon their arrival they located one male and one female both suffering from gunshot wounds,’ LVMP Lieutenant Robert Price said at a press conference. ‘Those officers rendered aid until medical arrived and unfortunately both were pronounced deceased on scene.’
Estranged husband breaks into wife’s apartment
The deceased were a husband and wife who had been separated ‘for a while,’ Price said. The former couple were in their mid-30s.
Las Vegas Police stated an individual, described as the husband, broke into a home on Nellis Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue on Monday and killed his estranged wife.
Social media identified the husband and wife as Jack Novelo and Ashley Avila Novelo.
‘The husband came over earlier this afternoon, forced his way inside the apartment and waited for the mother to arrive home,’ Price revealed. ‘When the mother arrived home it appears that the husband shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself and shot himself.’
Fundraiser launched on behalf of surviving daughters

Posted Ashley’s employer, Williams and Graham where she worked as executive chef, ‘Ashley was talented, funny, determined, stubborn and passionate. She challenged us. She made us laugh. She taught us things. We cared about her deeply.’
A GoFundme fundraiser has since been launched on behalf of the surviving daughters, ‘to support the girls immediate needs, education, living expenses, and the many challenges they will face as they rebuild their lives surrounded by family and loved ones.’
