A Southwest Airlines flight attendant was found dead near a dumpster after falling from the 24th floor of a Hawaii hotel while on a layover last week.
Jenny Lupton’s body was found by a hotel staffer early Thursday morning.
The 50-year-old mom from Oklahoma, had worked as a Southwest flight attendant for 23 years, was staying at the four-star Hilton Hawaiian Village resort in Waikiki while on a layover. Medical examiners said it appeared Lupton fell from her balcony on the 24th floor, KWTV reported.
Flight attendant’s family now demanding answers
Lupton’s family are now questioning the flight attendant’s death and disputing claims she died by suicide. Family members said Lupton had everything to live for and would not have intentionally taken her own life, and have even suggested foul play as they now demand a ‘thorough investigation.’
‘We strongly believe that she didn’t do this intentionally, and so that leads us to think it was either some kind of freak accident or someone harmed her,’ Lupton’s sister, Tresa Lupton, told KFOR.
‘We just want to know what happened. It doesn’t feel real.’
Added the sibling, ‘She just went out with one of her flight attendant friends, and they danced and had a good time.
‘She had just gotten a tattoo hours before this happened, and she messaged me. She said that when she gets back, she’s going to have it colored in because it was just the outline.
‘We were the closest of sisters, and we were the same, but we were opposites, like yin and yang and, you know, black and white, peanut butter and jelly, two peas in a pod.’
Southwest flight attendant with everything to live for
Lupton, an avid gardener, and the mother of a 15-year-old boy was planning on getting a tattoo of a hibiscus to honor her late father, with Tresa revealing the siblings were planning on living and traveling together.
‘We got to travel together to San Diego, Colorado, several times,’ Lupton’s niece, Hannah Lupton, said. ‘She was very well versed in Hawaii; she loved Hawaii and had gone multiple times.’
Adding, ‘She was truly the best aunt anyone could have asked for. She was the light of every party, the person who could make a room brighter simply by being in it. She had a personality that was impossible to forget, and if you knew her, you probably have a funny story about her.’
Southwest Airlines release statement
Family members said Lupton had planned to stay in Hawaii for several days and then return to her home in Moore, OK,. Now, Lupton’s sisters will be traveling to Hawaii to bring her home as they continue to search for answers.
Southwest Airlines released a statement saying:
‘The Southwest Airlines family is deeply saddened by the passing of our colleague during a layover in Hawaii. We have offered our condolences and support to the Employee’s family and co-workers and are engaged with local authorities as they investigate.’
Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond has contacted the Hawaiian Attorney General, Anne E. Lopez, regarding the investigation.
