Doral murder-suicide; Man stabs & kills ex wife, 2 kids then self

Melanie Lauren Hyer and Ryan Charles Whiten of Doral, Florida and their 2 daughters found dead in murder-suicide. Mom had recently divorced man she had been married for two years and begn living with children’s father again at Doral Isles gated community. 

A welfare check at a gated Florida home has led to the discovery of the bodies of two adults (male and female) and two young children believed to be result of a murder-suicide.

While authorities had yet to say who inflicted the carnage, initial speculation centered on the adult male, the children’s father, found dead at the scene. 

The fatalities were discovered Tuesday night, just on 7.30 p.m, inside a home in Doral’s gated Doral Isles community near NW 111 Court and NW 72 Terrace in Doral, just west of Miami.

Parents were previously married to each other and now living together

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as 46-year-old South Florida real estate professional, Melanie Lauren Hyer and her daughters as Savannah Whiten, 11, and Sienna Whiten, 8.

The male adult was identified as 42-year-old Ryan Charles Whiten, the children’s father and Hyer’s former husband, CBS News reported.  

Court records show Whiten and Hyer divorced in April 2024 and that Whiten had been married to another man until March 2026.

Ray Whiten‘s last known address was an apartment also in the Doral Isles neighborhood according to NBC6. Property records show Whiten and Hyer living at 11149 NW 72nd Terrace, the crime scene.

Mom and dad had toxic relationship according to ex

The children’s father like his ex-wife also worked in real estate, the Tampa Bay Times reported, citing the parent’s social media accounts.

According to Miami-Dade court records, Melanie Hyer divorced a man in March. He said he did not want to discuss his ex-wife or what happened when reached by the Miami Herald on Wednesday afternoon.

Whiten’s ex-wife described the pair’s relationship as ‘toxic’ during an interview and said they would argue over their daughters.

The woman – who broke down in tears while speaking – said she never saw signs of violence between Hyer and Whiten.

‘He was always so sweet with his girls and loved them deeply,’ the ex-wife said. ‘I don’t know what happened.’

Mental health cited

Downtown Doral Charter Schools confirmed that both girls were students there and released a statement expressing condolences.

‘Our community is mourning the loss of two of our beloved students. Our heartfelt sympathies are with their families, friends, faculty and staff at our schools. These students will be deeply missed,’ it read.

Doral Mayor Christi Fraga also released a statement about the ‘tragic loss of life being reported.’

Stated the release further, ‘As a mother, and as someone who personally knew and admired the loving and dedicated mother at the center of this tragedy, this loss feels especially close to home. My heart aches for their loved ones, classmates, teachers, friends, neighbors, and everyone grieving during this incredibly painful time.

‘This tragedy is also a painful reminder that we must continue having honest conversations about mental health, domestic violence, emotional wellness, and the importance of speaking up when something feels wrong. We must check on one another, ask difficult questions, and encourage those struggling to seek help before situations escalate into irreversible heartbreak.’

Detectives with the MDSO Homicide Bureau are working with the county medical examiner as the investigation continues. Authorities have not released additional details about a possible motive or prior calls to the home.
