A shooting at a Walmart parking lot in Texas has left a woman dead, another man injured and the victim’s husband now in custody.
Katrina Wheeler, 35, of Seguin, Tx., was gunned down Thursday afternoon, in the parking lot of Walmart in the 500 block of South Highway 123 Bypass and pronounced dead at the scene after suffering multiple gunshot wounds.
A 37-year-old man also was shot and was airlifted to a San Antonio hospital; his condition was not released, News4SA reported.
Seven to 10 shots fired at Walmart parking lot
Authorities stated anywhere from seven to 10 shots were fired leading to police dispatch, KENS5 reported
Seguin police said officers responded to reports of shots fired just before 5 p.m. and learned the suspect left before they arrived. Authorities identified the suspect as John Wheeler, 42, of Seguin, and said his vehicle was later spotted outside the city by the New Berlin Marshal’s Office, prompting a pursuit that ended in the 3000 block of FM 775, where Wheeler was taken into custody without incident.
According to the Guadalupe County Jail Records, John Wheeler has a long criminal history dating back to 2003. Some of those charges include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and illegal discharge of a firearm and several drug charges.
No known motive
The Seguin Walmart was closed until further notice while officers processed the scene and interviewed witnesses, city officials said. Police said the investigation is ongoing and did not immediately release a possible motive for the shooting.
Seguin PD detectives were reviewing surveillance video provided by Walmart.
Authorities had yet to say what led up to the shooting and if there had been previous instances of domestic violence involving the husband and wife.
The criminal investigation remains ongoing.
