Arkansas authorities have released the identity of a man who ‘accidentally’ fell into at a lake at a public recreation park in Newport only to drown.
The body of Dwayne Dates of Beebe was recovered after the 52-year-old fell into the Newport Lake at Lockwood Park around 7:41 p.m, Saturday, April 4.
Newport Police responded to a call of a man falling into the lake and entered the water, estimated to be about 14 to 15 feet deep but were unable to find Dates according to the Arkansas Democrat Gazette.
The Independence County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team was called and recovered the missing man’s body. Dates was pronounced dead at the scene KAIT reported.
No foul play is suspected officials stated.
Officials have not released further details regarding the circumstances leading up to the fall. The incident remains under investigation.
Posted the victim’s sister, Pat Dates on Facebook in the aftermath: ‘This doesn’t feel real. My heart is heavy, and I’m still trying to process it all. If you knew him, you know the kind of person he was he will truly be missed.’
