Robert Robbins, Fort Plain, NY man bludgeons his elderly parents to death with a hammer at their Montgomery County home. No known motive.
A 45-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the shooting murder of his parents at their Fort Plain, New York residence on Friday.
The son’s arrest follows the suspect, Robert Robbins calling the Montgomery County Dispatch at about 4 p.m. on Friday in which he described having ‘an incident’ with his parents at their home on Clinton Avenue.
Responding officers were met by Robbins in the driveway who directed police inside the residence where a husband and wife, both in their 70s, were found deceased.
Son admits killing Fort Plain parents during questioning
During questioning, Robbins admitted to killing his parents and was taken into custody according to Fort Plain Police Chief Kevin Collins.
Robbins was reportedly arraigned for murder at about 1:15 a.m. on Saturday and is now being held at Montgomery County Jail without bail. The identity of the victims had yet to be made public.
The Fort Plain Police Department said the investigation remains ongoing with the assistance of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police. Collins told NEWS10 that autopsies will be performed on the victims on Saturday.
News of the elderly couple’s deaths shocked the normally quiet community with the last homicide occurring in 2018.
Offered Collins:‘Fort Plain is a pretty quiet village. We had a homicide back in 2018 for the most part. It’s a great place to live. It’s like anywhere else. Anything can happen anywhere we’re not immune to things to happen like this unfortunately we try to provide a good quality of life for people who live here in the village.’
A cause and manner of death was expected to be provided in the days ahead.
Collins while wishing ‘not to jeopardize’ the case stated that a hammer had been found at the crime scene. Not immediately clear is what led to the son bludgeoning and killing his own parents.
