California authorities have arrested the son of famed Hollywood director, Rob Reiner, 78, with the murder of his parents, Rob and his wife Michele Singer, 68, who were found slain at their Los Angeles home over the weekend.
Nick Reiner, 32, was taken into custody on Sunday night and is being held on $4 million bail, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, hours after the couple was found stabbed to death in their $13.5 million Brentwood home, according to law enforcement sources.
LA DA’s office to decide on charges against famed Hollywood director’s son
The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office had yet to determine what criminal charges to pursue against the son.
‘A case has not been presented to our office for filing consideration. Once a case has been presented, we will carefully review the evidence to determine what charges are appropriate,’ the office said in a statement.
Nick Reiner following his arrest was booked on suspicion of felony murder, the Los Angeles police chief said. Formal charges were pending.
The couple’s daughter Romy, who lives just across the street, is said to have made the grim discovery of her parents bodies when she visited their sprawling six-bedroom estate Sunday afternoon.
Romy told police that a family member ‘should be a suspect’ because they are ‘dangerous’, TMZ reports.
Rob Reiner was a director, producer and actor who gained fame with his role as Mike on the Norman Lear sitcom All in the Family. As a director, he helmed beloved movies like This Is Spinal Tap (1984), Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally… (1989), Misery (1990) and A Few Good Men (1992).
‘It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time,’ the Reiner family said.

When art mirrors life: autobiography hinted at family discord
In a 2016 interview with People magazine, Nick Reiner spoke about his long struggle with drug addiction, which ultimately led to him being homeless at one time.
“When I was out there, I could’ve died,” he told the outlet at the time, speaking about being homeless. “It’s all luck. You roll the dice and you hope you make it.”
Nick admitted first attending rehab around his 15th birthday.
His years of addiction formed the basis for the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, which he co-wrote.
Nick collaborated with his director father on the project, which depicts the strained relationship between an actor father and his addict son and tracks closely with the Reiner family’s own experience.
The film ends with an apology from the father about the occasionally harsh way he treats his son, including enforced stints in rehab, something Reiner said he gave his son in real life.

It remained unclear whether the 32-year-old was still struggling with addiction or had recently relapsed.
Rob and Michele met when Rob directed When Harry Met Sally, and the couple married in 1989 before having three children, Jake, Nick and Romy.
Rob Reiner is also survived by daughter Tracy Reiner, with his first wife, Penny Marshall, who died in 2018.
The Reiner family owns two houses across the street from each other. Rob and his wife lived in one and a daughter with kids lived in another, ABC News reported citing neighbors.
