Karma always knows your zip-code… A California woman killed in a drive-by shooting this week has been identified as Obdulia Sanchez, the Stockton resident whose 2017 live-streamed DUI crash led to wide spread criticism over the portrayal of gratuitous violence.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded around 7 p.m. Tuesday to the 700 block of Gertrude Avenue, where they found Sanchez and a second victim with gunshot wounds.

Sanchez, 29, was taken to a hospital and later died. The other victim’s condition has not been released. To date no arrests have been made according to the SF Chronicle.

Obdulia Sanchez previous infamy for causing sister’s death and filming it

Sanchez had risen to infamy for live-streaming her 14-year-old sister’s body after a crash where Sanchez, then 18 year old, was driving under the influence. Sanchez, was on Instagram’s live feature when she lost control of her vehicle, causing it to overturn in a field in the Los Banos area of Merced County. She continued to record video after her sister was ejected from the vehicle and died.

The county’s district attorney’s office at the time said Sanchez’s livestream reflected ‘some depravity and some stupidity’ after learning of her 0.10 blood alcohol level.

Sanchez was sentenced to more than six years in prison but got out after 26 months in September 2018 for good behavior. Officers took her back into custody the next month after leading law enforcement on a pursuit.

The Stockton Police Department told KCRA 3 at the time that officers tried pulling Sanchez over for expired registration, but then she drove off, prompting the chase that resulted in her capture.

‘What she did here in Stockton (Thursday) morning is alarming, because she was just released from prison, is on parole and is already engaging in criminal activity, such as leading our officers on a pursuit,’ said Stockton police officer Joe Silva at the time.

No known motive in Stockton drive by shooting

Come Tuesday evening, Sanchez and a male were struck by a hail of gunfire, after an unknown assailant, according to witnesses, fired off more than ten gunshots, near the intersection of Gertrude Avenue and Fremont Street. First responders took Sanchez to a hospital, where she later died of her injuries, police said.

The condition of the male companion remains unknown, police said.

It remained unclear if Sanchez was the intended victim of the drive by shooting or whether she was struck and killed randomly.

Tuesday’s shooting comes just days after a mass shooting during a 2-year-old child’s birthday party that left four dead and 13 injured.

To date, authorities have yet to make an arrest in either incident.

Anyone with information on the drive-by shooting is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 209-468-4400.
