Voting season has arrived and how …. An 18 year old teenage male has been arrested after brandishing a massive machete in a bid to ‘antagonize’ voters at a Florida early polling site, police said.
Caleb James Williams, 18, a self avowed ‘Trump’ supporter was taken into custody after allegedly wielded a 23-inch blade at two ‘Democrat’ voters at the Neptune Beach voting site near Jacksonville just after 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Williams is accused of waving the knife above his head in an ‘intimidating manner’ at a 71-year-old woman who had been waiting in line, NBC News reported.
A 54-year-old woman standing beside the elderly woman told cops that she also feared for her safety and took a photo of the teen flashing his braces as he flaunted the machete.
The episode comes as a group of young men waving signs supporting former President Donald Trump confronted a group holding signs promoting Kamala Harris outside the early polling station. Along with chanting Trump’s name, the group were seen flaunting MAGA flags.
Neptune Beach Police Chief Michael J. Key Jr during a Tuesday night news conference said that officers found a group of eight, including seven juveniles and one adult, in the library’s parking lot.
‘The investigation revealed that the group arrived to protest and antagonize the opposing political side,’ the police chief said.
‘I‘m extremely angry at this,’ Key added.
‘It’s is one thing to exercise your First Amendment right which we so dearly take as a sacred right, but the moment you move to violence, that goes out the window,’ the official said.
‘The group was there for no other reason but for ill intentions to cause a disturbance,’ Key said.
Williams was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault and improper exhibition of a firearm or dangerous weapon charges.
Police have sought to assure people that the polling station and other sites in the county remain safe for voters.
