Kristen Avelar identified as Nevada woman found stuffed in luggage at Las Vegas location as cops appeal to the public to help solve homicide case with many un-answered questions.
Nevada authorities have reached out to the public in a bid to help solve the case of a deceased woman found stuffed in a suitcase in Las Vegas early Thursday morning.
Kristen Avelar, 46, was found ‘dead at the scene’ following the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department receiving a tip about about a deceased person circa 4am. When first respondents arrived to the reported location, they found the victim inside the bag near an apartment complex, near Harry Reid International Airport.
The Clark County coronor’s office were able to identity the deceased woman as Kristen Avelar, a divorced mother of three, the Las Vegas Review-Journal said.
Unanswered questions
The department’s homicide until is handling the investigation, although a cause and manner of death have not yet been determined.
‘Due to the suspicious nature of her death, the LVMPD Homicide Section responded and took over the investigation,’ police said in the news release. It’s unclear what caused Avelar’s death or how she ended up in the suitcase, along with whom put her there.
Authorities declined to say when the woman came to die and how long she had been in the suitcase prior to the discovery of her body. Also not understood is whether Avelar met her fate at the site of her discovery or whether her body was dropped off at the site.

A regard of Avelar’s Facebook profile revealed her stating she hailed from Enterprise, Nevada and was in an ‘open relationship.’
Comments on one social media thread included claims from those who seemingly knew Avelar, saying she was a gambler, addicted to drugs, and ‘had been given too many chances.’
